The CDC Olive Jig Nymph is a general mayfly imitation based on nymphs of the Baetis genus, a group commonly known as blue-winged olives. While blue-winged olives are not found in New Zealand, this pattern is designed as a general representation of a mayfly nymph rather than an exact match to a local hatch. CDC fibres add movement and life, while the gold bead and reflective body material provide flash and trigger points that can attract trout. A useful prospecting nymph when you want a suggestive mayfly profile without trying to imitate one specific insect.
About This Range of Euro Nymphing Flies
Every fly in this range is tied on barbless jig hooks with slotted tungsten beads. The flies are sold by bead size — because getting to the right depth is the most critical factor in euro nymphing. Tied on the smallest hook the bead will match (12-18 depending on fly), the compact profiles keep things natural, help entice wary fish, and maximise sink rates so your fly gets into the zone fast.
