Duncan, Vice-President of The North Shore Flyfishers, has a great many years of experience on all waters. In choosing the following flies he said ‘this is what I would use as they provide fly opportunities for all occasions’. The following is a list of flies included (Includes fly box – box colour may change ). Also note that due to availability occassionally a fly might change for something similar. Duncan’s reasoning on a few flies:
I have gone for Parachutes over Upright Wings / Hackles as in my experience they can hold up a tungsten bead nymph better. I have gone for 3 sizes on Royal Wulf as they are such a versatile fly and can be used in heavy water (size 6) through to quite skinny water (size 14). Even a size 14 will happily suspend a 2.3mm tungsten bead nymph. I have gone for both Black and Green Cicadas as early in the season I see more Black and latter in the season I see more greens.
