Quote for the week: I think there is a connection between thinking and fishing, mostly because you spend a lot of time up to your waist in water without a whole lot to keep your mind busy. (US Novelist Anthony Doerr reveals the secrets of his thought process.)

Greetings fellow fly fishers,
Well, it has been another unsettled week with today (Friday) quite miserable. The fishing has been quite steady however with some days fishing very well. It has been hard to get a gauge on it really as some days have definitely fished better than others so it is a matter of putting the time in and success will follow.
This rain should juice up all the rivers and in particular, The Hinemaiaia and TT could really improve as the fish are there but a bit shy in the lower river conditions. I will be spending another week in Turangi before going down to the Twizel canals to chance my arm at some monsters.
It’s not for everybody but there is something special hooking up a horse (which show themselves numerous times throughout the day) especially on a fly rod. I am picking I should catch the end of the main spawning run and while I am expecting it to be cold, I do expect to have some action.
Hinemaiaia River Success – Cleardrift Egg Clusters.
I will be trying out the cluster of Cleardrift Egg flies that I have tied (see picture above) which should work pretty well down there. They work well up here as well, so I am quietly confident. All the rivers are just starting to rise a bit but very fishable so if you don’t mind a bit of wet and windy weather, then you should be in luck if you get out there.
Well, that’s it from me this week so until next time,
