Saltwater Fly Fishing in Auckland

Auckland Saltwater Fly Fishing

Aucklanders have been let loose on boats. Simon and me launched at 6am sharp at Hatfields beach for a stellar morning yesterday before the NE’s picked up.

A calm morning and fog bank made for stunning conditions at the southern end of Motuora island.  Kingfish and kahawai made an early appearance and we quickly hooked up.  A king tried to eat one of my fish and I managed to get some cool underwater footage of it.  More kahawai followed before activity died off at high tide.  Rest of the morning we had 1 snapper deep drifting with our flies and another from a shallow reef on the way home.  The wind picked up and we were back at the ramp before lunch. It was so, so good to get out. Pity about the silly rule change late arvo meaning I have to fish alone until it is changed again.

Enjoy the video, plenty of action and neat footage of the saltwater fly fishing possibilities here in Auckland.
