The Judge’s Pool absent of fishers but the fish are biting!

Well, another week has come and gone, and we are well into what I believe is the best time of year to catch a fat winter trout. The weather this week has basically been pretty fine, and the fishing has been excellent with some superb specimens turning up. I went to the Hinemaiaia River earlier in the week and there is no doubt the numbers of fish are increasing in this river as are the anglers.
I believe even more fish will enter in the next couple of weeks because, although numbers are good, I expect to see many more fish yet if past seasons are anything to go by. Just be careful driving down the track as it is getting a bit of traffic at the moment, and it is very much one way traffic with one vehicle often having to back up in certain places to allow the other one to pass. The Tauranga Taupo River continues to be popular and earlier in the week there must have been 30 cars in the carpark.
I have not fished this river this week but will check it out next week, but it would be fair to say with the number of vehicles at the carpark, it must be fishing pretty well. The Tongariro River has been my main focus this week and while the popular pools are getting plenty of attention from fishers, there are times when there are few or no fishers there at all. Because of the high numbers of fish in the river at the moment, there are plenty of places to fish even if it is not the preferred spot and getting hooked up is highly likely at some stage.

Also, fishers move around a fair bit so if you are patient, you will generally get a shot at a place you would like to try. Overcast day today and rain is on the way with a fair deluge expected tomorrow (Friday) and possibly Saturday. We certainly have had our share of rain, and the Lake is very full. But the rain has been responsible for some good runs coming up the rivers.
The Cleardrift Egg has been working well with the Tonga Bomb taking its share of fish as well.
