Hi Barrie, sending feedback on the tube flies you sent me last week.
I spent three days at the mouth of the North Canterbury Hurunui river
fishing for searun trout. I put one of your chartreuse tube flies on
my flyrod and 3rd cast got smashed by a strong searun trout that took
me out to the backing and fought like hell. The tube came up the
leader and the hook was firmly embedded in the back of the fish’s
mouth and stayed there when it made several strong jumps. Wen we
netted it we were surprised at the low cf and why it fought so hard.
Didn’t get the chance to try the red or yellow tubes as it was a
howling easterly wind but I will get the chance fishing the
Waimakariri river next week. I’m impressed with the tube fly concept
and how well they hold fish so I will be looking at getting some tube
tying gear from you in the future. cheers Brian
