Kahawai on Fly
I had a great morning at Motuora last week with kahawai busting bait on the surface. It went on nearly all morning. They are such good fun on a fly rod and very much underrated.
I started with a clouser and a big eye baitfish pattern, but it wasn’t until I went with a much smaller anchovy pattern that I started getting consistent hits. The stomach contents of one of the fish I kept revealed they were feeding on whitebait.
